Hello, Mythies! Welcome to June!
I have great news to share on the Mythos front, as the first chapter/demo has been completely written and the rendering is well underway. This means that you’ll be seeing images from the game for my updates, instead of boring pictures of me holding my cat. The image for this update is actually the first of the in-game renders I’ve made, and I’m liking how my video card upgrade seems to be making my renders look better (since bad renders were one of the main critiques of Book One).
However, there is a slight hiccup in the game development process, and that’s related to some nastiness hitting my personal life. If you don’t care about my drama, feel free to skip reading the rest of this. If you want to know what’s happening, and indeed if you want to offer your help (which would be greatly appreciated), read on!
I try not to let the external stuff bog down my work on Mythos, but it’s kinda unavoidable. Be it a pet passing away, a relative passing away, or getting COVID for what feels like the hundredth time, I am only a single human being that also has a full-time job aside from Mythos. I’d love to make this my entire living, but that’s just not feasible – at least for now.
For the past year or so, Morgana (my partner) has been in a lot of pain, mostly in the knee and shoulder. I believe I’ve gone over how the MRI of her knee revealed that there’s no meniscus in ther, so it’s basically bone-on-bone. Her shoulder pain was a little harder for the doctors to figure out, for some reason. After yet another MRI, we found that she has a torn rotator cuff. A very badly torn rotator cuff. So bad, in fact, that she’s going in to surgery next week, because the surgeon wants to get it done before she permanently loses use of her right arm.
This leads to my dilemma. Morgana is going to be out of work for this, obviously, and doesn’t have any paid time off left – that was all burned up on the many doctor’s appointments and days where her pain was too unbearable to function. She doesn’t have any short-term disability insurance (her health insurance is through my job, which only offers me short-term disability), and we’re already in quite a bit of debt due to having two pet medical emergencies in recent history and MRIs being stupidly expensive even with insurance. The problems are twofold.
The first is that I’m basically going to have to do everything around the house for a short time while Morgana recovers. Normally the household upkeep stuff is split pretty evenly between us, but with her dominant arm being unusable that just isn’t possible. It’ll be hard enough for her to even use the bathroom having to rely on her off-hand (go ahead and try it yourself). Thankfully, since I’m in the “rendering” stage of making Mythos, a lot of that time is spent with me staring as the computer works anyway.
The second is money. I’m very concerned about us now having reduced income for the coming months on top of the debts already owed. This is the part I hate to do, but I’m going to swallow my pride here and ask for help from anybody who can provide it.
If you can, I would greatly appreciate any donations you can give. I’m looking into opening a ko-fi or buymeacoffee account, but I need to be sure that those platforms won’t give out my personal information. For now, you can do a one-time thing through my existing Patreon or SubscribeStar pages (or do a monthly subscription, if it strikes you, I guess). If I can get one of the coffee-type platforms confirmation that they won’t be giving out my address, I’ll share that link here as well. Again, I hate having to do this, but I’m running out of options right now.
Thank you for reading this far, even if you can’t help (or just don’t want to, which is fine). Here’s a picture of my idiot cat.
