Okay, Mythies! I’m back in it fully, now!
For those of you just tuning in to “The Nine Show”, let me do a real quick rundown.
- Morgana (my partner) tore her rotator cuff.
- Said rotator cuff injury required surgery, which requires a good amount of time off work.
- Morgana doesn’t have that much paid time off.
- While recovering, Morgana basically can’t do anything on her own (including… potty business).
- Because of this, Nine was super-stressed and also too busy to get much done on Mythos.
Sadly, this resulted in over a month where I could only get a few renders done, but I did make the most of my time in other ways. In between all the cooking and cleaning and bathing and such, I got all my stuff in order for when I could sit back down and do some real work. Part of that was a much-needed reorganization of my Mythos… “filing system”.
My previous system was keeping about half of it in my head, with everything else scattered between various Google docs, text files, and random stuff I’d jot down in a notes app on my phone as I thought of them. I’ve had Scrivener for a while, so I decided to compile everything Mythos-related into that so I’d have a single searchable database of all the stuff I needed to know. This made things a ton easier, especially since Scrivener has ways to easily cross-reference things so I can look at a character and see everywhere I’ve put them and every random thing they may have said.
Now the time of struggles seems to have mostly passed. Morgana isn’t nearly back to full physical capacity, yet. However, she’s out of the sling and her job is working with her to give her light things she can do so she’s back to being paid full time. I couldn’t have made it financially without the help of some very generous donors, so thanks again to everyone who kept us fed during this time! I worry about how this is going to factor into our taxes come January, but that’s a worry for 2027 me.
I did still get renders done, as I will continue to prove by using in-game renders for each of the updates I post… like the one above! Why does this sign exist if werewolves don’t exist? Where is this sign? You’ll see!
One thing I figured out about Book Two as I compiled that Scrivener file was that I have a lot of background lore. Probably too much. It made me wanna maybe include some stuff in Book Two that’s probably better saved for a future installment, so as not to overbloat the thing. I hear from my published author friends that the second book is the hardest to do, and I think this may be part of it. I’m going to be looking over my outline for the rest of Book Two (Chapter One is done, and I’m not gonna re-write that!) to see if there’s some unnecessary fat I can trim away.
I wonder if I should pick an alpha reader or two that will know the whole story (in broad strokes) to see what they think. It’s something to consider.
Now I’m going to take a page out of my good friend RJ Rhodes’ big and give you a little view of what else has been going on in my personal life (if you care).
Reading: Bookshops and Bonedust by Travis Baldree. I actually just finished this one, and now I don’t know if I’ll jump right into the next book in this series, or pick up one of the other many books in my backlog.
Watching: Not much, as far as series go. We saw the new Spidey movie last night, which I thought was great!
Playing: Been doing some matches on MTG Arena, when time allows. I was also playing Octopath Traveler since I needed something I could step away from at a moment’s notice while watching over Morgana. Good to see turn-based games still being made.
We’re out of the woods, and I can once again focus my full energies on getting the first chapter/demo out to everyone. Thank you for your patience!
