Happy Friday, Mythies!
It’s been an okay week in Nineworld. I actually went on a coding blitz this week, putting a lot of the written story from Word documents into Ren’Py code. I finished all four achievements (concept and renders). I did a minor rework of Chapters One and Two, so now all traces of stats and “love points” should be totally gone (one of the reasons you need to restart when Chapter Three releases).
And oh yeah… Chapter Three is about to it’s first round of beta testing.
Whaaaaaaaaaaat? Yeah, that’s right. Enough of Chapter Three is in a playable state that I’ve selecte a few beta testers and this weekend will have people actually getting their hands on it to see how it works. Most of it isn’t rendered yet, but my focus is making sure the story and dialogue work first. After all, if an entire scene ends up needing to be scrapped, I’d much rather have to scrap just the text than the hours of work it took rendering that text into images.
So what does this mean for progress? Well, it means progress is actually being made, that’s for sure. After nine freakin’ months my shit has finally calmed down enough that I can bust my ass on getting the work done. This chapter isn’t particularly long — it may be about the same length as the first two — but god damn was 2022 determined to kick my ass and prevent me from releasing it.
I’m still not giving a release date, or even an estimate (even though I have one in my head), but I’m glad that I can finally demonstrably show some people that it has been getting worked on!
