Hello, Mythies!!!

With Chapter Four fully released and Chapter Five on the way, I’m watching for everyone’s reactions and opinions. Please make your voices heard in any way you can! Reviews are a great way to do this (hint hint)! I really value any critiques, so long as they’re somewhat objective. Saying “I don’t like this” is fine, but saying “I don’t like this because…” is much better because it gives me something to work with. Of course, if it’s completely subjective (like saying you think a character is ugly) there’s not really much I can do about that.

Those of you who have been around the Mythos block a few times will also know that a chapter’s release means that two “events” are coming up: “Ask the Dev” and “Ask the Cast“! For those of you who are new (welcome!), these are periods of time where I will open up questions from everyone, which will be compiled and then answered in an article on the site. “Ask the Dev” is where you ask me questions directly; a typical “Q&A” thing. “Ask the Cast” is where you actually are speaking directly to the characters, with them responding in kind (possibly lying in the process). Keep an eye out for when I say questions are open — it may be sooner than you think with how fast Chapter Five is progressing.

That’s because I’ve already written 3 of the 8 scenes in Chapter Five just this week! Since Chapter Four and Chapter Five were originally going to all be one chapter, all the groundwork stuff that I usually lay out beforehand (outlining and other “housekeeping” things) has already been done so that I can dive right into the writing. This means Chapter Five may not take very long to get out to y’all — though we all know how monkey wrenches can get thrown into things.

And one such monkey wrench is something I need to address because it could end up being a major issue: My mortal job. When I first started making Mythos, I was working remotely from home (like many were due to the COVID-19 pandemic). I’ve received word from my superiors that, for some reason, they want all associates to begin working in the office three days a week, starting September 18th. If that wasn’t bad enough, they plan to eliminate remote work entirely sometime in 2024. Now I don’t often work on Mythos during work hours, but I do know that working around other people was exhausting and stressful for me. My productivity increased substantially when I began working from home, making the decision to bring me back into the office all the more puzzling. I worry that the exhaustion of having to work in that hectic environment, as well as adding a commute into my day, will affect my ability to work on Mythos at home. We’ll have to see how that shakes out.

There is a possibility, however, that I can continue to work remotely from home; if I can get my doctor to sign off on saying my staying out of the office is a medical necessity. I’m seeing her for my physical on the 18th so I’ll broach the subject at that point. My boss (who agrees with my stance that I shouldn’t have to go into the office again) is also doing what he can to have me working in one of the smaller “satellite offices” that have 3-4 people, which also happens to be walking distance from my home. This is a developing situation, so keep an eye on future updates to see where it’s going.
