It’s the end of 2024. That means it’s the first year since I’ve started doing Mythos in which there hasn’t been an update. While that really stresses me out and makes me sad… there’s some real good news here.
Game Update
As I stated before, the “final scene” of Book One is more like a “mega scene”. I broke it down into different settings so you can see how far through I’ve gotten. The first half of the scene is the hardest because it involves me setting up all-new locations just for a few renders. The latter half is in places that already exist (since I set them up ahead of time!), so they should go faster.
I had to make a lot of new textures for this finale. Luckily, I was off work Thursday and Friday. I couldn’t get anything done on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, but I did 8 hours on both Thursday and Friday, and did renders for twelve hours yesterday. I’m going to try to finish up “sequence 5” today, but I fear if I try to do much more I’ll burn out.
That being said, there’s always been a big rule of mine that I never give release dates or even release estimates. I’m about to break my own rule, because I really want to get this done and I want y’all to have faith in me. So I’m hesitantly saying that Mythos, Book One, will be complete by February 2025. My hope is to have it fully up on Steam by Valentine’s Day. Let’s see if I can do this (beta testing will be the one possible hiccup).
Personal Update
A low-key Christmas! It’s all I’ve ever wanted. Normally Christmas Eve was my family’s “big holiday” where we all went to my grandmother’s house and had a big dinner and gift ceremony. Seriously, it was a ceremony. There was a chair that was sat at the front of the room and, in order from youngest to oldest, you’d sit in the chair and open your gifts for everyone to see. After my grandmother passed a few years ago, my aunt tried to take over as the host for this, but it just didn’t feel right anymore. Plus she makes the most disgusting mac and cheese I’ve ever had; it was somehow like… greasy, watery, and crunchy? Parts of the noodles were uncooked, somehow, I guess. It was really bad. I could write a whole update on how bad that mac and cheese was. Plus her part of the family are all pretentious as fuck as we hate being around them.
So this year, Morgana and I made the decision that, as adults, we can decide not to spend time with people we dislike, even if they’re family. On Christmas Eve we went to see Sonic 3 (which was great!), then on Christmas Day we exchanged gifts with my parents and had a small dinner with them. It was really nice not having to stress out about possible arguments breaking out, or trying to buy gifts for people we can not relate to at all.
Still not sure what we’re doing on New Year’s Eve, but it will probably likely be equally mellow.
