I guess I can’t really call this a “Weekly Update” right now, can I? Has it really been two months? Guh. Sorry.
Hello, everybody! It’s me, Nine, the developer of Mythos! The above image is a metaphorical imagining of what it’s like trying to get my new PC workspace set up the way I like it, because I forgot how to configure things. Opening Daz to the default settings made me instantly recoil in horror. Photoshop wasn’t much better. I fear what things will look like when I reinstall Mixcraft and AfterEffects.
But things are being set up, thus why I’m posting. The new computer is fully functional after a hiccup with getting the RAM to be recognized properly (it still isn’t, but it’s something I can live with). The outline for all of Book Two is laid out, so all I need to do is start writing it!
Why haven’t I?
First, there was the whole “Nine needs a new PC, but Daz doesn’t have their shit together enough to support the newest NVIDIA cards.” This finally got settled with me building my own new system, but instead of a 5090 I got myself a 3090ti. That render above is my first one using the new computer, and it worked great. I don’t think I even need a 5090, yet. However, if Daz ever becomes compatible with the 5090 cards, I built the rest of the system strong enough to support just popping a new card in and not having to rebuild another whole new system.
But also, to be honest, it was really nice to have a few months where I didn’t feel guilty about doing my own things. Whenever I would play a game or go out somewhere during the Book One production, in the back of my mind I’d keep thinking “you shouldn’t be enjoying yourself. You need to work on the game.” Once there was no game to work on, I got to do things guilt-free, and it was a kind of addicting feeling. But I still have so much more story to tell, and it’s really gnawing at me to get it out there.
I still have to deal with the holidays, but after that my schedule is clear. My job no longer does inventory in January, so other than MAGFest I have nothing else stopping me from delving completely in. I’m gonna get some new alpha readers (people who read the scripts before I even start rendering), and start sending them story bits to see how they feel it shakes out. I’ll have more news on that when I feel like I’ve got a good hook for chapter one.
Bear in mind that, unlike Book One, Book Two is being made from the ground up as a game – there’s no prior novel I’ve written to base this on, so we’re in uncharted territory. Whee!
I guess I can throw in a little bit about my personal life, too:
- We got a new cat named Cecil. Yes, he’s named after the Mythos character. He’s a little orange guy, seven years old, and has been slowly adjusting. He still slaps Gulliver whenever they’re close together, but hopefully that’ll pass soon.
- Most of the games I’ve been playing, oddly, have been Chinese gacha games. Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and most recently Where Winds Meet (which is phenomenal, truly). Thankfully, all of these are easy enough to just hop in, do a few things, and hop back out. They’re not nearly as life-absorbing as previous gaming obsessions (looking at you, Baldur’s Gate 3).
- Morgana’s having some problems with her knee. Apparently the meniscus in her right knee is entirely gone. Thankfully, she got approved to have some kind of gel injection that should at least hold off her needing a whole replacement for a while. She’s having that done on Tuesday.
- I’ve been going back to the gym. I know, I’ve said this… quite a few times. Hopefully I can really stick to it this time!
- Thanksgiving was awful. Don’t really wanna get into those details.
- Christmas is looking to be mid, at best. At least we don’t have many people to shop for these years!
- I still hate Werewolves.
I’m once again super sorry that I’ve been incommunicado for a while! I’ve been posting a little on Bluesky, and still very active in my Discord, so if you ever worry that I’ve fallen completely off the face of the earth, you can look for me there!
I’ll have more concrete updates for you after the holidays.
Until then, keep the legends alive!
– Nine

“I’m gonna get some new alpha readers”
I can help with that.
Welcome back! We missed you. 🙂
