Hey, hey, everybody! It’s Friday, again — but this Friday is an important one to many people. Some people even took the day off, even though it’s not a national holiday or anything. Even though it’s not something I observe, myself, I want to show my support to those who do.
Of course I’m talking about National Anime Day. I hope everyone enjoys Attack on Naruto: Brotherhood, or whatever’s popular these days.
I’ve actually started down the rabbit hole of learning After Effects! It’s not quite as daunting as I may have thought at first; but seeing what it can do makes me kinda excited to incorporate this into Mythos. Having a cool animated “opening credits sequence” could help grab the attention of people trying the game for the first time. Plus it’d set the mood for the whole game better than a dark interrogation room, followed by a cemetery. I really coulda planned that better…
I did have a panic earlier this week, as I was worried I’d have to put everything on hold due to my computer dying. Windows told me it had to restart for updates, so I just kinda rolled my eyes and restarted it to get that notification to go away (I hate having notifications on anything). After that, I started getting random crashes, with the error of “UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP”. So I did the logical thing and went to uninstall the new update.
To which I got an error that it failed to uninstall because 🤷♀️.
People in my Discord were helpful, offering various troubleshooting options and possible solutions — none of which were working. I was nearly ready to do a full reinstall of Windows when I got a different crash error: “WHEA UNCORRECTABLE ERROR”. That set off little alarm bells in the back of my tiny mind.
For those of you who have been here a while, you may remember I had these issues back when I first started working on this computer, which was solved by disabling intelppm.sys. The WHEA error was one of the ones it was throwing at me back then, so I decided to take a look. Lo and behold: The Windows Update apparently saw fit to re-enable intelppm.sys, which in turn broke my computer. So I guess every time Windows updates, I’m going to have to make sure it doesn’t re-enable the thing I’ve very deliberately disabled.
I don’t know what intelppm.sys actually does, but all I know is that my computer only works when it’s not there, so I just keep it disabled.
Anyway, because of that familiar error, I only had one night of no-computer panic, instead of however long I’d be dealing with a fresh Windows install (which likely wouldn’t have even fixed the problem). So yay for that!
