Mythos, Book One is “officially” done!
The quotes are because I’m not done my work on it until the Steam release. However, you can grab it on Patreon or SubscribeStar if you’re of the “Sophia’s Mentee” tier or higher, and it’s fully available on itch.io as a completed project. So I’m a game dev that has actually completed a game, now! That, alone, is a rarity.
But my work on Mythos, Book One is not fully completed, just yet. I have to tackle the big beast: Steam.
Why didn’t I just release on Steam along with everything else? Simply put, releasing on Steam right now would be a mistake, based on what I’ve discussed with other, more successful Steam devs. You shouldn’t release on Steam until you’ve built up a good number of wishlists; roughly 10,000 from what I understand.
Mythos is currently at, um… 1,600. That’s low.
So what I’m doing now is trying to drive up those wishlist numbers as high as possible. However, I recognize that my followers on Patreon, SubscribeStar, and itch.io have been waiting for a long time. Many of them have been with me from chapter one! It felt unfair to keep them waiting. So the game is done and “out”, yes… but I still have a way to go.
This gives me time to figure out all the fiddly bits of actually working with Steam. The whole process to upload to Steam is complicated as hell, so I’m getting help with that. I also need to figure out the achievements (yes, I know I keep saying that). Additionally, I’m quite sure that the larger player base will find errors that missed even my thorough testing team, so I can fix those up as well!
I don’t know if I’ll have the time for this, but I may re-render the scenes from that part in the middle of the game where everyone’s eyes got a lot bigger because of a malignant Daz asset I’d downloaded and couldn’t figure out.
For now, though, I can rest a wee bit. You’ll start seeing some news about Book Two soon(ish).
Keep the legends alive!
