Heya, Mythies!

Welcome to the end of February! I’ve decided against doing “weekly updates”, especially during the writing phase of Book Two, since there isn’t really enough news going on every week to tell you stuff. Plus, as someone pointed out, updating y’all every single week takes away time that I could be like… doing stuff. Thus, I’m gonna do these monthly (maybe), and I’m not going to try to do a different render for every one.

Now on to actually updating you on things!

Book One Updates (?)

“But Nine,” I hear you saying thanks to the surveillance malware I’ve put on your phones, “isn’t Book One already finished?”

Yes, it sure is! But that doesn’t mean I’m just ignoring it’s existence. There’s a few minor bugs to squish, but nothing so important that I’ve prepared a whole patch for it, yet. I also still would like to add more languages but I really can’t afford translations right now. Mythos isn’t really selling well enough that I can pay a translator yet (especially not with the personal debt I’m in – sheeeeesh). Someone suggested I do machine translations just as semi-placeholders, but that feels kinda wrong. I know it’s not exactly AI, but I’d still feel like I’m kinda taking away a job from someone who could be getting rightfully paid for their time.

Book Two Updates

The writing of Book Two is going well! My alpha readers are going over the scenes as quickly as I put them out, and I’m still making some adjustments to the “narrative tone”. Being as Vic (the Book Two protagonist) has a different manner of speech than Ky (the Book One protagonist), I have to keep checking myself during the “voiceovers” so that I don’t fall into talking like Ky. Ky and I are… practically the same person, so it’s easy to fall into the trap of writing like that when it’s all supposed to be told by Vic.

Am I making sense? Probably not. I am going to be putting up character interviews and “Tales from Mythos” again, but I want to save that for when I’m in the rendering phase. Once I’ve finished writing all of Chapter One (which is also going to be the demo for Book Two), I can do these extras. I can write the interviews and tales while rendering the game. Double duty!

Personal Life

For those who care, just adding some stuff about what’s been going on in my life while working on the game.

I mentioned last month that our old cat was feeling a little unwell. Unfortunately, several days after making that post, we took Gulliver to the vet for the last time. His kidneys and heart were both failing. While there were possible treatments, they’d be very aggressive, very stressful on him, and not very likely to even work. We were with him until the very end, and he lived a very comfortable, happy, and loved life… but it still hurts and I will always miss him.

At least we still have our younger cat (Cecil, the orange boy) and our very derpy lizard (Shayla-Shayla, the leopard gecko).

But to end on a happier note, I thought my car was somehow wrecked by the extreme cold after the snowstorm, but she’s working again! It seemed like some condensation froze in the fuel lines or something. As soon as it got warmer, she started up again with no issues.

That’s all for this update! Thanks for reading, Mythies.

Keep the legends alive!
